How photos are accessed, processed and stored — and the choices you have.

Photos and metadata

Zeying uses Apple's Photos APIs to read photos you authorize and available metadata, including previews, capture/modification dates, dimensions, favorite status, asset identifiers and embedded coordinates. These support photo comparison, detail views and exact-list validation. The app does not continuously track your current location. macOS controls Photos authorization; deletion requires full Photos access and system permission.

Local processing and storage

Visual comparison and quality hints run on the Mac using Apple Vision and other local processing. Session decisions, resumable analysis snapshots, some previews, cleanup history, feature indexes, settings and recent scan diagnostics are stored in the app's data directory. These files may contain private photo content or metadata. Diagnostics can include counts, timings, errors and paths. This version has no developer-operated photo upload feature, advertising or analytics tools, app account login, or third-party cloud AI analysis. Language and appearance are app settings. Language changes apply on the next launch; the app does not change the global macOS language.

Network requests and Apple services

Apple Photos may download iCloud previews or originals according to Photos settings and individual requests. Some app requests allow network access, so the app does not promise that all photos are available offline. When you view details for a photo with valid embedded coordinates, the app may pass those coordinates to Apple's geocoding service to show a place name. This uses photo metadata, not live device-location tracking. Apple's settings and policies govern its services. These downloads and place-name lookups may involve network data transfer. This version does not include a feature for uploading these photos, coordinates, diagnostics or settings to a developer-operated server.

Your choices and deletion

Recommendations are advisory and may be incomplete or wrong. You choose Keep, mark for deletion or Later. Marking is not deletion. Group-derived candidates require individual review, an exact final list and explicit confirmation before the app requests deletion from Photos. Failed saves, changed lists and unverified outcomes block further deletion; uncertain requests are not retried automatically. iCloud deletions may synchronize to other devices using the same library. Apple Photos manages Recently Deleted and recovery eligibility/deadlines. Zeying does not empty Recently Deleted or guarantee recovery.

Retention and control

Local records and caches may remain to support continuation; no universal automatic expiry is configured. Uninstalling may leave local data and there is currently no erase-all-data command. Adjust Photos access in macOS System Settings. Back up first and use version-specific support instructions before removing app data. Older records are imported only after you select an old Private folder, inspect it and explicitly confirm into an empty destination. Other containers are not silently copied and existing records are not overwritten. Older deletion decisions require individual review again. Older indexes and archived previews are not automatically migrated.
